Care and Maintenance

Congratulations on your purchase, your furniture is made from the finest kiln dried clear Western Red Cedar. Whether you choose to leave it natural, purchase it stained or stain it yourself you will find some helpful information below.

Unfinished

Western Red Cedar is one of North America's most durable woods. Natural resistance to deterioration has long made Western Red Cedar the premier choice for either interior or exterior home use. Periodic cleaning with a mild detergent and warm water will help avoid unsightly discoloration.

Staining yourself

All of our furniture is shipped pre-sanded and is ready for stain. Preassembled kits are best stained as individual pieces. Inspect the wood for any marks from the shipping and un-packing and sand as necessary with 100 grit paper. Choose your stain carefully making sure that it is both a penetrating and breathable stain. We use and recommend Sansin products for Cedar furniture but regardless of your choice be sure to follow the manufacturers recommendations for preparation and application.

Pre Stained

Our pre-stained furniture comes from the factory with 4 coats of Sansin stain. This is the most durable finish available since it is applied under ideal conditions, in most cases this finish will last between 5 and 10 years. Pre-stained furniture will require little or no maintenance during this time, periodic cleaning is all that is required. Once the finish begins to fade a reapplication of stain will restore it to like new condition. Please refer to the WWW.Sansin.com for products and procedures for reapplying the finish.
